The Ottawa Charge secured a historic fifth consecutive win as they triumphed over the Vancouver Goldeneyes with a 4-2 victory on Friday night in Ottawa. Anna Meixner, Ronja Savolainen, Brianne Jenner, and Rebecca Leslie all found the back of the net for the Charge in the game.
Gwyneth Philips put on a stellar performance in goal for Ottawa, making 23 saves. Vancouver saw goals from Sophie Jaques and Michelle Karvinen, with Kristen Campbell stopping 23 shots in net.
The scoring started at 10:12 of the first period when Savolainen capitalized on a rebound from Peyton Hemp’s shot. Meixner extended Ottawa’s lead to 2-0 at 5:07 of the third period with a goal past Campbell.
Vancouver responded at 11:13 with Jaques scoring a goal after a skillful play from her own end, narrowing the gap. However, Jenner’s empty-net goal at 18:35 sealed the victory for Ottawa, despite Karvinen scoring for Vancouver just 23 seconds later. Leslie added another empty-net goal with 24 seconds left in the game.
The Goldeneyes have struggled on the road this season, with only one win in five away games. Looking ahead, the Charge will face the Boston Fleet in Halifax on Sunday, while the Goldeneyes will take on the Victoire in Montreal on the same day.
