Hay River RCMP reported seizing narcotics and weapons, including a modified shotgun, subsequent to responding to a report regarding a suspected impaired driver. The incident unfolded on Saturday afternoon, with officers receiving a tip about a driver exhibiting signs of impairment while seated in a vehicle within a downtown parking area.
Upon initiating an investigation into impaired driving, law enforcement allegedly discovered small quantities of suspected crack-cocaine and suspected fentanyl, in addition to over $4,600 in cash in the possession of the driver, who was subsequently apprehended. Following this, a search warrant was executed on the vehicle, leading to the discovery of various weapons, an imitation firearm, and other drug-related paraphernalia.
A 32-year-old individual, who was already on bail at the time of the arrest, now faces multiple charges. These include five charges related to carrying concealed weapons, four charges for possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose, two charges for possession of controlled substances, and a charge for possessing property acquired through criminal means amounting to under $5,000.
Authorities have indicated that they are awaiting the results of a laboratory analysis before proceeding with impaired driving charges related to drugs. Subsequent to a bail hearing, the individual was remanded in custody.
