Big dogs, known for their loyalty, affection, and sweetness, often struggle to find homes despite their wonderful qualities, as per Toronto Animal Services. The agency has collaborated with NutriCanine, a fresh dog food company based in Toronto, to alter perceptions about large dogs. Their second annual campaign, running from March 23 to April 23 in the Greater Toronto Area, aims to promote the adoption of big dogs.

Toronto Animal Services will be waiving all adoption fees for large dogs and large-breed puppies in Toronto to encourage more families to consider adopting these animals. Large dogs are defined as those over 50 pounds or puppies expected to exceed that weight.

Elana Trainoff, partnerships manager at Toronto Animal Services, highlighted that some people may feel hesitant about having a large dog due to concerns about space, exercise requirements, and fitting into their lifestyle. However, Trainoff emphasized that large dogs have immense love to offer and can positively impact their owners’ lives if given a chance.

The campaign is driven by the fact that large dogs tend to wait longer for adoption solely because of their size, Trainoff mentioned. Last year, the initiative led to 58 adoptions, showcasing the success of such efforts in finding loving homes for these deserving animals.

Trainoff emphasized that many large dogs are adaptable companions who can thrive in various living environments. Each dog has its unique story, and potential adopters are encouraged to visit the city webpage to view available dogs, contact the relevant shelter, schedule a visit with family members and existing pets, and determine the best fit for their household.

The adoption process remains unchanged, requiring interested individuals to follow specific steps to ensure a smooth transition when bringing a new furry friend into their homes.
