Phil Collins, Iron Maiden, Billy Idol, Queen Latifah, Oasis, Sade, and Joy Division/New Order are set to be honored with inductions into the prestigious Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. This year’s inductees were announced during the recent broadcast of American Idol. To qualify for induction, artists must have released their debut commercial recording at least 25 years prior. The selection process involved over 1,200 industry professionals, artists, and historians casting their votes for the nominees.

Phil Collins, known for his soft rock hits like “In the Air Tonight” and “One More Night,” has already been enshrined in the Hall of Fame as part of Genesis. Sade, a soul-jazz vocalist with chart-topping hits such as “Smooth Operator” and “The Sweetest Taboo,” was also nominated this year. Wu-Tang Clan, recognized as rap trailblazers since their groundbreaking album “Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers)” in 1993, received their first-time nomination.

Iron Maiden, a powerhouse in the new wave of British heavy metal, and the late Luther Vandross, a multi-platinum-selling artist known for hits like “Here and Now” and “Any Love,” are among the esteemed inductees. Additionally, the Hall of Fame will welcome Manchester’s post-punk icons Joy Division and New Order, along with the Britpop sensation Oasis, led by the Gallagher brothers. Billy Idol, known for infusing punk attitude into pop music with songs like “White Wedding” and “Rebel Yell,” is also part of this year’s induction lineup.

The induction ceremony is scheduled for November 14 at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, with a televised presentation to follow in December on ABC and Disney+. The special categories for this year’s induction include early influence, musical excellence, and the Ahmet Ertegun Non-Performer Award. Notable figures like Queen Latifah, Fela Kuti, and Ed Sullivan will be recognized for their significant contributions to the music industry.

Unfortunately, some nominees who did not make the cut this year include Mariah Carey, Lauryn Hill, and INXS. However, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame continues to celebrate musical excellence by honoring iconic artists and influential figures in the industry.
