Canada’s Victoria Mboko has secured her spot in the final of the Adelaide International women’s tennis tournament. The 19-year-old tennis player, hailing from Toronto, emerged victorious over Australia’s Kimberly Birrell with a scoreline of 6-2, 6-1 in the semifinals held on Friday.
During the match, Mboko showcased her prowess by delivering eight aces and committing three double faults as part of her preparations for the upcoming Australian Open. She capitalized on five out of her seven break opportunities and impressively won 80% of her first-serve points. In contrast, Birrell struggled to secure any aces or break points throughout the game.
Having been seeded eighth, Mboko is now gearing up to face off against the third-seeded Russian player, Mirra Andreeva, in the final scheduled for Saturday. Mboko, who had a remarkable 2025 season on the WTA Tour, is all set to mark her debut at the Australian Open later this month. Her outstanding performance last year, which included clinching the National Bank Open in Montreal, led to her significant rise in the rankings from No. 333 at the beginning of the season to No. 18 by the end, earning her the title of WTA Newcomer of the Year.
