The Vancouver Canucks were without forward Brock Boeser for their recent game against the Washington Capitals in Washington, D.C., as he was dealing with personal matters. General manager Patrik Allvin made the announcement on the team’s social media platforms on Sunday morning but did not provide a timeframe for Boeser’s return. In his absence, Jonathan Lekkerimaki filled in for the game against the Capitals.

Boeser, who has scored three goals in five games for Vancouver this season, notably clinched a 3-2 victory over the Chicago Blackhawks with a shootout goal on Friday. The 28-year-old right-winger avoided free agency in July by signing a new seven-year, $50.75-million US contract with the Canucks. Selected 23rd overall in the 2015 draft, Boeser has exclusively played all 559 regular-season NHL games of his career with Vancouver, accumulating 207 goals and 237 assists.
