The Canadian men’s alpine ski team has seen impressive growth in recent seasons, achieving success at world championships, World Cup events, and the renowned Kitzbuhel downhill race. Head coach John Kucera is optimistic about the team’s potential, emphasizing their focus on podium finishes and setting high expectations for the upcoming World Cup season and the Winter Olympics in Italy.

The trio of skiers leading the Canadian alpine ski program, including Jack Crawford, Cam Alexander, and Jeff Read, has consistently made podium appearances in recent years, showcasing their talent and determination. Crawford, for instance, secured an Olympic bronze in 2022 and has since claimed multiple World Cup podiums and a world championship title in the super-G event.

Alexander, another key member of the team, faced a setback with a knee injury but is determined to return to competition at the World Cup event in Copper Mountain. Meanwhile, Read, following in his father’s footsteps, achieved his first World Cup medal in the super-G event and is driven by the competitive spirit within the team.

The team’s resurgence draws comparisons to past Canadian ski legends like the Crazy Canucks and Canadian Cowboys. Kucera sees similarities between the current team and his experiences as part of the Canadian Cowboys, highlighting the potential for consistent podium finishes and a strong showing at future Olympics.

Looking ahead to the 2026 Winter Olympics in Bormio, Italy, the Canadian team aims to build on their past successes on the challenging downhill slopes. While the course may present new challenges during the Olympics, the team remains focused on delivering strong performances and aiming for podium placements.

Kucera acknowledges the unpredictable nature of alpine skiing but remains confident in his team’s abilities to compete for medals at both World Cup events and the upcoming Olympic Games. The team’s collective drive and determination set the stage for an exciting season ahead.
