Canada secured a spot in the gold-medal match at the International Para Hockey Cup after a dominant 9-1 victory over Italy on Friday. Leading the charge was Captain Tyler McGregor from Forest, Ont., who recorded a hat trick and two assists.
Auren Halbert from Calgary contributed with two goals and two assists, while Greg Westlake, a veteran from Oakville, Ont., scored his first goal for Canada since March 2022. Westlake, a five-time Paralympian and former team captain, returned to the ice this season following a two-year stint as an assistant coach with the national program.
Additional goals for Canada were scored by James Dunn from Wallacetown, Ont., Dominic Cozzolino from Mississauga, Ont., and Micah Kovacevich from Edmonton. Adam Dixon from Midland, Ont., and Anton Jacobs-Webb from Gatineau, Que., each recorded three assists.
Adam Kingsmill from Smithers, B.C., made six saves as Canada dominated Italy in shots with a 35-7 advantage. Canada is set to compete for the gold medal against either China or the United States on Sunday.
