Court documents reveal that two individuals living near the residence of Lilly and Jack Sullivan reported hearing a vehicle’s activity in the vicinity during the night before the children went missing in Nova Scotia. Despite this, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) stated on Monday that a comprehensive review of surveillance footage in the Gairloch Road area showed no signs of any vehicle movement during that time.
RCMP’s communications adviser, Allison Gerrard, clarified that while witnesses mentioned hearing a vehicle, the presence of a driver and vehicle remains unconfirmed and is not considered a significant aspect of the investigation.
New information from witnesses is included in redacted records previously disclosed in August and later released in more detail after requests from various news outlets.
The court documents include requests by investigators to search for phone records, banking details, and videos related to the case, along with unproven statements by law enforcement.
The siblings, Lilly, aged 6, and Jack, aged 4, were reported missing on May 2 by their mother, Malehya Brooks-Murray, who informed the police that they had wandered off from their home in Lansdowne Station, situated approximately 140 kilometers northeast of Halifax.
The children lived with their mother, stepfather Daniel Martell, their one-year-old sibling, and Martell’s mother on the property.
During a conversation on May 9, a local resident, Brad Wong, informed constables that he heard a loud vehicle departing and returning multiple times from the area near the Sullivan household in the early hours of May 2.
Another resident, Justin Smith, recounted hearing a car near Gairloch Road and Lansdowne Station Road around 1:30 a.m. that day, which was later identified by Wong as belonging to Daniel Martell.
Martell’s account stated that he retired to bed early that night and only woke up the next morning. Brooks-Murray mentioned that she put the children to bed before herself and Martell stayed up to clean the house but did not complete the task as expected.
Martell clarified in an interview that no one left the property that night except when he used Brooks-Murray’s vehicle to search for the missing children the next morning.
Despite various theories and speculations, including claims made by Malehya’s relative Darin Geddes on social media and a YouTube show, investigators stated that as of July 16, the disappearance of the children was not deemed criminal.
Extensive search efforts involving cadaver dogs and volunteers were conducted in the area, but no human remains were found, keeping the case under investigation as a missing persons’ case.
