The union representing WestJet cabin crew has disclosed details of the tentative agreement reached with the Calgary-based airline following a one-day strike this week. The Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) announced that the deal comprises an increase of more than 18% in wages over a three-year period, along with the introduction of a new “duty period premium” to compensate for ground work. Additional benefits include extended time off, elevated food and uniform allowances, and various other provisions.

Amid a long holiday weekend for many, all WestJet flights in a significant part of Canada were halted as the deadline approached for a potential strike by 4,400 flight attendants who commenced the strike early on Sunday. Subsequently, a tentative agreement was reached between the airline and the union early on Monday, leading to a gradual return to normal operations for WestJet.

The cabin crew members are scheduled to vote on the agreement in the upcoming weeks.
