Canadian ski jumper Abi Strate clinched a silver medal at a women’s ski jumping World Cup event in Sapporo, Japan this past Saturday. Hailing from Calgary and aged 24, Strate excelled in the women’s large hill competition, adding to her earlier bronze-medal win in a normal hill event in Zao, Japan.
Expressing her joy at the achievement, Strate credited overcoming previous challenges on the Sapporo hill with her success. She delivered an outstanding 130.0-meter jump in the final round, accumulating a total score of 273.9 points. This marked her fourth World Cup podium of the season and the ninth in her career.
Slovenia’s Nika Prevc claimed the gold with 279.4 points, while Norway’s Anna Odine Strøm secured the bronze with 260.3 points. Strate, elated with her performance, emphasized the mental strength and progress she displayed throughout the week.
Additionally, Strate is gearing up for her upcoming second Olympic appearance in February in Italy. Having attained a 23rd place in the individual normal hill event and a bronze in the mixed team event at the 2022 Games, she expressed satisfaction with her recent competitions as she heads into the final training period before the upcoming Games.
