Expectant parents in western Prince Edward Island are advised to contact Prince County Hospital in Summerside before heading over for childbirth next week. Health PEI announced on Friday that upgrades to the hospital’s operating room are scheduled from November 10 to November 11. During this period, no scheduled or urgent surgeries will be performed, with emergency surgeries being evaluated case by case.

To ensure a smooth experience, parents-to-be in Prince County are urged to call Prince County Hospital’s maternal child-care unit at 902-438-4490 from the evening of November 9 to the end of November 11 for guidance related to pregnancy care. In case of a medical emergency, individuals are instructed to contact 911 or visit the nearest hospital emergency department, which includes PCH.

The hospital’s operating room is undergoing enhancements to its heating, ventilation, and cooling systems. If necessary, parents may need to travel to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Charlottetown, located approximately 60 kilometers away.
