Coyne Schofield’s goal, her 14th of the season, came from Heise’s skillful pass on a breakaway play, bringing her total points tally to 14. Heise, with her 10th assist of the season, showcased her playmaking abilities, with four assists in the last two games.
This matchup marked the first of five regular-season games between Minnesota (5-2-2-3) and New York (6-0-1-5), with the Sirens holding a 3-2-1-0 advantage over Minnesota in the previous season’s meetings.
Heise set up Britta Curl-Salemme for the opening goal, taking advantage of a Sirens goaltender error to put Minnesota ahead 1-0 with 11:05 remaining in the first period. Curl-Salemme’s goal was her fifth of the season, making her the league leader in points with 14. She has maintained a consistent point-scoring streak, contributing in 10 out of 12 games this season.
Minnesota extended their lead to 2-1 early in the second period as Kelly Pannek found the net just 35 seconds in with a powerful close-range shot, assisted by Coyne Schofield. New York’s Casey O’Brien equalized the score at 1-1 with a goal late in the first period, followed by Taylor Girard leveling the game at 2-all with her fifth goal of the season at 4:04 in the second period.
Looking ahead, Minnesota will face Montreal at home on Wednesday, while New York will play against Montreal in a Takeover Tour game at Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C. on Sunday.
