The City of Hamilton is going above and beyond to create an unforgettable holiday season for its residents. Hamiltonians are encouraged to partake in various festive events happening throughout the season. Activities range from ice skating and tobogganing to winter golf and free ornament crafting, catering to a diverse range of interests.

Outdoor rinks operated by the city are now open, offering free drop-in skating until 11 p.m. at several locations. Additionally, community volunteers have set up rinks in city parks for public enjoyment. The city also provides opportunities for drop-in skating, winter golf, and disc golf, with specific course openings and operational status depending on daily weather conditions.

For those seeking an immersive Victorian Christmas experience, guided daytime tours of Dundurn Castle are available daily until Jan. 4. The castle is beautifully decorated with traditional holiday elements, showcasing 19th-century Christmas traditions and Canadian customs. Similarly, Whitehern Historic House and Garden offers a glimpse into the McQuesten family’s Christmas celebrations across different eras, with daytime tours and a Candlelit Christmas Evening Tour.

Downtown Dundas BIA hosts Dickens of a Christmas events on select weekends, featuring various festive activities. Rivers and Meadows organize a hands-on salt dough ornament making workshop at Hamilton Farmers’ Market, providing a fun and creative experience for all ages. The Hamilton Museum of Steam & Technology presents a Christmas Model Train Show, and the ChristmasFest Vendor Market at Ancaster Fairgrounds offers unique gifts and crafts from local vendors.

Lastly, the Boxing Day tradition continues with the Boxing Day 10-mile and four-mile runs on Dec. 26, starting at King William and Hughson Street. Indoor activities will be held at the YMCA on James St. S.
