Jakara Anthony from Australia clinched the gold medal in the women’s freestyle skiing dual moguls event at the Winter Olympics in Milano Cortina. This victory came as a redemption after facing disappointment in the single-format moguls competition. Jaelin Kauf of the United States secured the silver medal, while the bronze was claimed by American skier Elizabeth Lemley in Livigno, Italy.

Dual moguls, a new addition to the Olympic lineup, features a head-to-head elimination format where skiers compete side by side through parallel bump fields, emphasizing speed, turns, and aerial maneuvers.

During the intense competition, Anthony edged out Kauf by a fraction of a second, awaiting the judges’ final decision before celebrating her score of 20 against Kauf’s 15. Australian supporters cheered fervently, displaying yellow inflatable kangaroos on the mountainside. Anthony, the first Australian to win two Winter Olympics gold medals, beamed with joy during the medal ceremony.

In the event, three out of the four Canadian participants won their 1/16 matchups but were eliminated in the 1/8 finals. Maïa Schwinghammer from Saskatoon defeated Marie Duaux of France before succumbing to Perrine Laffont, also from France, in the 1/8 finals. Vancouver’s Jessica Linton secured a win against Ayaulym Amrenova from Kazakhstan before facing Anthony in the 1/8 round and eventually losing. Ashley Koehler from Lac-Beauport, Quebec, triumphed over Li Ruilin from China but was defeated by Lemley in the 1/8 finals. Laurianne Desmarais-Gilbert from Sainte-Adèle, Quebec, lost her 1/16 final to American skier Tess Johnson.

The competition showcased thrilling performances and intense rivalries, highlighting the skill and determination of the athletes at the Winter Olympics.
