More than six weeks following global warnings about a potential jet fuel shortage in Europe, two major airlines are assuring travelers that booking summer vacations in the region is safe. They do not anticipate any fuel shortages affecting their operations during the busy travel season.
Air Canada has informed customers that there is no reason to worry about jet fuel availability. In a marketing email obtained by CBC News, the airline offered discounts for flights to Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, emphasizing that there are no fuel shortages impacting their operations in Europe and they foresee no significant disruptions throughout the summer.
Lufthansa, a European airline, stated in an online post that most airlines in Europe are confident that there will be an adequate supply of jet fuel this summer, including their own operations.

This reassurance comes after Lufthansa canceled tens of thousands of short-haul flights through October earlier this year to save jet fuel.
Ryanair, the largest European airline by passenger numbers, is offering discounted summer fares to attract customers. During an investor call in mid-May, CEO Michael O’Leary expressed minimal concerns about fuel supplies in Europe.
This is a significant shift from the concerns in April when airlines in Europe were facing serious worries about fuel supplies. The International Energy Agency’s head, Fatih Birol, had mentioned back then that there might be only about six weeks of jet fuel left due to disruptions caused by the Iran war.
Analyst: Air Canada Will Ensure Fuel Supply
Calgary-based aviation analyst Rick Erickson found Air Canada’s assurance to passengers regarding fuel availability for flights to and from Europe at the start of the busy season surprising.
Erickson remarked, “I have never seen an airline, especially at the beginning of the peak season, reassure customers not to be concerned about fuel.”
