A man from Winnipeg has been taken into custody after allegedly making threats against Prime Minister Mark Carney and promoting hatred towards Jews and Muslims. Jason Paul Rindall, aged 55, was apprehended on February 13, as confirmed by the RCMP in a press release issued on Monday.
The RCMP’s federal policing national security enforcement unit in the northwest region initiated an inquiry into comments posted on a social media platform, formerly known as Twitter, on January 16. This investigation led to the arrest of Rindall nearly a month later.
Rindall is facing three charges under the Criminal Code of Canada for making threats of causing death or bodily harm. Currently, he is being held in custody and is set to appear before a judge in Manitoba provincial court in Winnipeg on March 13.
The RCMP emphasized that they will refrain from making further comments on the case as it is an ongoing investigation and pending court proceedings. Carney’s office declined to comment and directed inquiries to the RCMP.
The RCMP’s federal policing division handles cases involving terrorism, espionage, cyberattacks, and other related crimes.
