Mounties in northern Manitoba are on the lookout for two individuals after a vehicle broke through the ice on Cedar Lake. The Grand Rapids RCMP were informed early Tuesday morning that a pickup truck had fallen through the ice on the east side of the lake, near the Manitoba Hydro boat launch. The incident occurred approximately 75 meters from the shore, close to the Grand Rapids generating station. Local authorities, including emergency responders, the Grand Rapids Fire Department, and Manitoba Hydro personnel, promptly initiated a search operation.
The pickup truck, carrying a man and a woman, entered the ice and subsequently sank, trapping both occupants inside. Despite efforts using a Zodiac boat and an aerial drone to detect any heat signatures in the vicinity, no trace of the individuals was found. The RCMP’s underwater recovery team located the vehicle the following day but did not locate the missing man and woman.
The underwater search continues as Mounties pursue further investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
