AFC Toronto’s Marko Milanovic has been honored as the coach of the year in the Northern Super League. Milanovic guided Toronto to the top spot in the league’s first season, boasting a commendable 16-6-3 record. Toronto accumulated 51 points, outshining its closest rivals Ottawa Rapid and Vancouver Rise by a notable 12-point margin, as they settled with 39 points each.
The award selection process involved a vote among the six NSL coaches, with the restriction that they could not vote for themselves. This voting method mirrored the one used for the players’ annual awards, where players vote for their fellow players.
Toronto led the league of six teams in goals scored, registering a total of 42 goals, while ranking second in goals conceded with 24, just behind Montreal. The team is set to kick off the playoffs against Montreal this Saturday in the first leg of the semifinals, while Vancouver will host Ottawa on Tuesday.
Before his tenure at Toronto, Milanovic dedicated over a decade to coaching North Toronto Soccer, where he also steered the team in League1 Ontario. Additionally, he served as an assistant coach at Toronto Metropolitan University.
