Nvidia has introduced a powerful chip designed to integrate advanced artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities into laptops and desktop computers. Leading brands such as Microsoft and Dell are gearing up to launch new personal computer models later this year.

The Santa Clara, California-based company has achieved significant success in supplying high-end chips for data centers, meeting the surging global demand for AI technologies. Nvidia is now focused on expanding its footprint in AI systems and products.

During the annual Nvidia GTC event in Taipei, Jensen Huang, the CEO and founder of Nvidia, unveiled the RTX Spark superchip, a groundbreaking innovation that merges central processing unit (CPU) and graphics processing unit (GPU) functionalities. This superchip is set to power upcoming Windows laptop and desktop models, transforming them into “AI personal computers” scheduled for release this autumn.

Nvidia, currently the world’s most valuable company, aims to redefine the PC landscape with a focus on creative and gaming capabilities. Huang emphasized the potential of autonomous AI agents that can assist users in various tasks, including file management, research, and more.

Microsoft, in a separate announcement, highlighted that PCs equipped with Nvidia’s RTX superchips will support sophisticated AI models and workloads, enabling the execution of AI agents locally. This move comes at a time when the demand for personal AI assistants is on the rise, offering consumers a wider array of choices.

Industry experts, such as Lian Jye Su from Omdia, view Nvidia’s initiative as a significant step towards integrating AI applications into everyday computing. Neil Shah, an analyst at Counterpoint Research, described Nvidia’s innovation as a game-changer that will shape the future of PCs over the next decade, envisioning a scenario where “AI supercomputers” become commonplace in households.

In his presentation, Huang also highlighted the production of Vera CPUs for data centers as a key growth driver for Nvidia. The company anticipates early adoption of these CPUs by prominent AI entities like Anthropic, OpenAI, and SpaceXAI. Additionally, Huang unveiled a humanoid robot reference design intended to inspire future research endeavors, particularly within the higher education sector.
