Canadian tennis player Victoria Mboko was defeated by Elena Rybakina of Kazakhstan in the quarterfinals of the Toray Pan Pacific Open. Despite winning 83.3% of her first-serve points, Mboko lost 6-3, 7-6(4) to Rybakina, who fired five aces during the match. The encounter was a rematch from the National Bank Open in Montreal, where Mboko emerged victorious and went on to win the tournament as a wild-card entry.

In a separate event, Canadians Felix Auger-Aliassime and Denis Shapovalov withdrew from their quarterfinal matches at the Swiss Indoors tennis tournament. Auger-Aliassime retired after losing the first set to Jaume Munar, while Shapovalov retired in the third set against Joao Fonseca. Auger-Aliassime’s hopes of qualifying for the ATP Finals were dampened by the loss, as he aimed to secure a spot in the year-end championship. Shapovalov, ranked 23rd in the world, showed promise in the first set but ultimately succumbed to Fonseca’s strong performance.

In women’s doubles, Canada’s Gabriela Dabrowski and Sofia Kenin were defeated by Luisa Stefani and Timea Babos in the quarterfinals at the Tokyo Open.
