In Inuvik, N.W.T., RCMP reported the arrest of two young individuals following the discovery of suspected cocaine and a loaded firearm at a residence in the area. Authorities responded to a welfare check call on Monday for an individual who had not been in contact for several days. Upon gaining entry to the apartment on Bompas Street with the cooperation of a tenant, law enforcement officers allegedly spotted a handgun in plain sight. The two youths, aged 15 and 17 and hailing from British Columbia, were taken into custody at the scene. A subsequent search authorized by a warrant uncovered 10 grams of suspected crack cocaine, a loaded handgun with a prohibited magazine, five mobile phones, and over $13,000 in cash. Both adolescents face charges including unauthorized possession of a firearm, possession of property obtained through criminal means exceeding $5,000, possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute, and possession of a restricted or prohibited firearm with ammunition without the necessary license. Additional charges against the 15-year-old involve failure to comply with a probation order and three counts of disobeying a court order. The 17-year-old, who had previously been released on bail, faces two charges of non-compliance with a release order. Following a bail hearing, the teenagers were remanded in custody.
