Canada’s William Dandjinou, Courtney Sarault, Felix Roussel, and Kim Boutin secured a silver medal in the short track speed skating mixed team relay final during the Winter Olympics in Milan. The Italian team clinched gold with a time of 2 minutes 39.019 seconds, while Canada finished closely behind at 2:39.258, taking the silver. Belgium claimed the bronze with a time of 2:39.353.

During the race, Boutin’s impressive performance sparked a comeback for Canada, moving them into contention. Roussel later secured the second position after a Chinese skater lost balance, but Dandjinou couldn’t close the gap on Italy’s Pietro Sighel, who finished first, delighting the home crowd.

Despite being pleased with the silver medal in his Olympic debut, Dandjinou expressed his hunger for more success. He emphasized the importance of team achievements and acknowledged the competitive drive that keeps him pushing for excellence.

Canada’s coach, Marc Gagnon, strategically chose Roussel over Dubois for the final race to position Dandjinou as the anchor skater, a decision that proved pivotal in the team’s performance. Dubois graciously accepted the coach’s decision and commended the team’s strength and trust in each other.

The silver medal marked a significant milestone for Sarault, as it was her first Olympic medal, instilling confidence in the team’s potential for future success. The team’s performance also highlighted Canada’s strong presence in short track skating, with high hopes for additional medals in the ongoing Winter Games.

The Canadian team’s success in the mixed relay event adds to their impressive track record in short track skating, setting a positive tone for their performance at the Milan Ice Skating Arena. As they aim to surpass their previous medal count, the team is driven to excel and make their mark on the international stage.

The Winter Olympics in Milan have seen Canadian athletes making a strong impact, with three medals already secured by the team. The competition continues, with athletes like Sarault, Boutin, and Brunelle showcasing their skills and determination in their respective events.
