In Game 5 of the American League Championship Series (ALCS), the Seattle Mariners secured a 6-2 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays with a strong offensive performance in the late innings. This win puts the Mariners ahead 3-2 in the best-of-seven series, leaving the Jays in a must-win situation as they head back to Toronto for Game 6 on Sunday.

Toronto’s starting pitcher, Kevin Gausman, delivered a solid performance, allowing only one run, a solo home run by Eugenio Suárez, and striking out four batters over five and two-thirds innings. The Jays made a comeback in the fifth inning, tying the game at 1-1 with an RBI double from George Springer and taking the lead in the following inning with a run scored by Ernie Clement.

Despite not hitting many home runs, the Jays managed to get runners on base by hitting doubles throughout the game. However, their momentum was disrupted when Springer exited the game in the seventh inning after being hit by a pitch on the knee.

In the eighth inning, Seattle’s Cal Raleigh hit a crucial solo home run off Toronto’s reliever, Brendon Little, tying the game at 2-2. Little struggled, issuing consecutive walks and eventually giving up a grand slam to Suárez, extending Seattle’s lead to 6-2.

The Jays failed to rally in the ninth inning, ending the game with the same score. Mariners manager Dan Wilson praised his team’s performance, highlighting the importance of getting on base and credited their strong at-bats.

The series now shifts back to Toronto for Game 6, where rookie pitcher Trey Yesavage will start for the Jays. If Toronto can secure a win, a Game 7 will follow on Monday. The victor of the ALCS will advance to the World Series, with Toronto aiming to reach the stage they last reached in the ’90s, while Seattle eyes its first appearance in the Fall Classic.

In the National League, the Los Angeles Dodgers completed a sweep of the Milwaukee Brewers with a 5-1 victory in Game 4, securing their spot in the World Series. The Dodgers have won two World Series titles in the past five years.
