Pakistan and Afghanistan have agreed to a temporary halt in escalating conflict, following accusations that Pakistan was behind a deadly airstrike on a drug rehabilitation hospital in Kabul. The pause in fighting was announced ahead of the Eid al-Fitr holiday, with mediation efforts by Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Qatar. Pakistan’s Information Minister stated that the suspension of strikes on Afghanistan would be in effect until Monday, with a warning that operations would resume if faced with any cross-border or terrorist incidents. Afghanistan did not specify the duration of its pause but assured a courageous response to any aggression. Pakistan denied targeting the hospital, insisting its strikes were against military facilities. The conflict between the two neighbors, now in its third week, has resulted in significant casualties and international concern. The fighting disrupted a previous ceasefire and raised fears of escalating tensions in the region.
