Renowned British actor Anthony Head, recognized for his roles in popular TV series like “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” and “Ted Lasso,” passed away at the age of 72, as confirmed by his family on Friday. Head’s daughters, Emily and Daisy Head, shared with the Press Association news agency that the actor had complications from pneumonia.
In the 1980s, Head gained recognition among British TV viewers as part of a romantic duo in Nescafé instant coffee advertisements, which were later adapted for American audiences as Taster’s Choice. He rose to fame portraying the character Rupert Giles, a mentor in the supernatural series “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” which aired from 1997 to 2003.
More recently, Head played the role of Rupert Mannion, the antagonistic ex-husband of Hannah Waddingham’s character in “Ted Lasso.” His daughters expressed their profound sorrow over his passing but highlighted that his legacy would endure through the shows he contributed to and the fans who cherished them.
Born in London on February 20, 1954, to Seafield Head, a documentary filmmaker, and Helen Shingler, an actress, Head came from a family deeply rooted in the entertainment industry.
