The court emphasized that the ensuing uncertainty and confusion could potentially cause significant harm to the community.
Amid deep divisions within Kanehsatà:ke, certain community members, including the former grand chief, have accused the five chiefs of attempting to retain power. The current chiefs have sought court intervention to determine the process and timeline for a new election. However, a comprehensive hearing on this issue is not expected to take place until 2026.
