Intuit, a prominent company, has downsized its full-time workforce by 17%, equating to approximately 3,000 positions globally. This move aims to simplify operations and concentrate on strategic areas, particularly artificial intelligence (AI). CEO Sasan Goodarzi emphasized the need to enhance customer benefits by leveraging data, AI, and human expertise to achieve significant growth goals.

The restructuring involves reducing managerial positions, eliminating coordination-heavy roles, and closing offices in Reno, Nev., and Woodland Hills, Calif. Intuit is also scaling back investments in Mailchimp and aligning TurboTax and Credit Karma offerings following their integration. The exact number of affected Canadian jobs was not disclosed by Intuit, which previously shut down its Edmonton office in a previous round of layoffs.

As of July 31, 2025, Intuit had around 18,200 employees across seven countries. Impacted employees were informed of their status on Wednesday. This action aligns Intuit with a trend seen in various companies this year, such as Amazon, Jack Dorsey’s Block, and Pinterest, which have announced significant job cuts. While AI was not explicitly cited as the reason for Intuit’s layoffs, other tech firms have linked AI advancements to their staffing decisions.

Intuit’s strategic partnerships with AI startups Anthropic and OpenAI will enhance its software capabilities by incorporating personalized tax, finance, accounting, and marketing features. The layoffs preceded Intuit’s third-quarter results, where it raised its annual revenue outlook to $21.34-21.37 billion US, resulting in restructuring charges of approximately $300 million US, as reported by Reuters.
